Every two years there are the EYOFs (European Youth Olympic Festivals), both in the summer and in winter since 1991. About 2000 (summer) respectively 800 (winter) young athletes (between 15 and 18, according to the kind of sport) from 49 european nations are participants of these sportfestivals. The standard of performance is very high, because the participants are the best of their age and nation. Only Olympic disciplines are part of the program. The selection of the participants is made by the Liechtenstein Olympic Sport Association.

The fundamental principles of the EYOFs are based on the Olympic Charter. Olympism is a philosophy of life, exalting and combining in a balanced whole the qualitities of body, will and mind, blending sport with culture and education. Olympism seeks to create a way of live based on the joy found in the effort, the educational value of good example and the rexpect for universal fundamental ethical piniciples.
